When I first saw, these 4 of ,my favorite movies being released on Blu ray, I thought,”I must have these!” But the initial price of $99 gave me pause. Fortunately the price came down to a more reasonable $72.95, so I ordered them the first day they came out. And am I glad I did! Arrow Video has gone all out on this wonderful group of films! Besides the beautiful upgrade in picture quality, we finally have an anamorphic, widescreen version of “Creature With The Atom Brain”, which I have been waiting many years for. And besides the beautiful upgrade, Arrow has not skimped on the extras. For once we have a “Limited Edition Collectors Collection” that lives up to its title! All 4 films are presented in their original aspect ratio, 1.78:1/1.85:1, Hi-def, Blu ray 1080p presentation. With the original, uncompressed, mono audio.Included are a fully illustrated 60 page collectors book featuring extensive new writing by 5 different film historians, complete with publicity stills and photos shot during production both on set and behind the scenes. There is also an 80 page collector’s art book featuring reproduction stills and artwork from each film, and writing by historian and critic, Stephen R. Bissette. 2 double sided posters with new artwork by Matt Griffin, along with reversible sleeves with original art and the new art by Griffin. Each film also is included with 3-4 replicas of lobby cards from each film, along with the posters. Each film is preceded by a new introduction by film historian and critic, Kim Newman. Each film also features a brand new commentary by a different critic/historian. Each film includes a truncated 8mm version that was produced for home viewing back in the 60’s. And each film is included with a different visual essay on Sam Katzman or different areas of these films. It is all well worth the cost, for these extras alone. The problem with these collectible movies, is that unscrupulous vendors jack the prices up so quickly, if you don’t buy right away, you may not be able to afford it. This has already increased to $99.95 in just 2 short weeks. I know that those of you who own the DVD, “Icons of Horror Collection” are thinking that you’ll just stick with what you’ve got, right?! WRONG!! If you love these movies, like I do, you NEED to buy this collection! You will NOT be dissapointed!!
