Paul McCartney has released many solo albums since his Beatle days and for me its difficult to find a consistently great album trackwise that doesn't sound too much like a few good singles surrounded by fillers. That's why for me his best album is "Wingspan: Hits & History" but for his best solidly consistent studio album I would have to go with "Tug of War". Perhaps this album so obviously influenced by John Lennon's death helped to provide a kind of concept or central theme to help with focus but whatever the reason this album followed closely by "Ram" and "Band on the Run" represent his best solo studio album work to date. This mini-lp replica (mlps) release is a treat for fans as it has been well remastered apparently with Paul's personal approval and it sounds great with no compression that I can hear of. Also included is a 24-page booklet containing all the lyrics in both English and Japanese. The inner sleeve also closely resembles the original vinyl release. The main cardboard sleeve though is nothing to shout about as I've been a lot better assembled ones with good quality material; this one is just thin cardboard folded and glued together. The all-important sound quality is top notch though which should satisfy the audiophiles while not so much the mlps collectors.Overall still highly recommended!
